Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) delivers precisely shaped radiation doses that conform to a tumor’s three-dimensional shape while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. IMRT is commonly used when tumors are near critical structures or require a high degree of dose precision.

How IMRT Works with Varian TrueBeam™ with IDENTIFY™

The TrueBeam™ system integrates advanced imaging, motion management, and radiation.

Image-guided targeting: imaging tools help map tumor location before and during treatment to guide radiation beams precisely.

Beam modulation and shaping: computer-controlled multi-leaf collimators adjust the radiation beam’s intensity and shape throughout treatment to conform to the tumor’s geometry.

Motion management: when necessary, TrueBeam can compensate for tumor motion (e.g., breathing) during treatment.

This combination allows physicians to tailor radiation delivery with detail measured in millimeters while protecting nearby healthy tissue and critical structures.

What to Expect? – Treatment Planning & Sessions

IMRT planning at CRC uses high-quality imaging to define tumor size and position, allowing radiation dose to be precisely tailored while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. Treatment is delivered in multiple outpatient sessions, usually in 15-minute sessions, depending on diagnosis and clinical indication. Sessions are non-invasive, and patients typically return to normal activities afterward.
